My name's Emma, and I started PlantPlate in 2013 with the help of my husband Scott, a web developer and fellow plantivore. I’m a certified Plant-Based Nutritionist who loves to cook, and I've followed a plant-based diet for over a decade. Having lived in various locations throughout the world - sometimes on a shoestring budget, and often with irregular and demanding work schedules - I’ve had to constantly adapt my diet in order to make it work. It’s taught me a lot, and it’s motivated me to show others just how accessible and enjoyable this way of eating can be.

The recipes featured on PlantPlate are based on minimally processed plant foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. They're free from all animal products, processed oils and refined carbohydrates, and are made with simple and affordable ingredients. Our articles are aimed at providing you with plant-based know-how when it comes to shopping, cooking, nutrition and day-to-day living. We have answers to common questions and share practical knowledge that we have acquired through experience. Finally, the resources section contains links to books, DVDs, and video presentations from some of the world's leading experts on plant-based nutrition. It is our hope that these resources will help you to fully understand and evaluate the health benefits of this wonderful way of eating.

Easy Oven Fries

Want delicious, crispy fries without all the grease? Try our easy oven-baked recipe! A comfort-food treat that the whole family will enjoy, with 3 different seasoning options.

Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cook Time: 25 Minutes
Yield: Serves 2-4

This is simple, satisfying comfort food at its healthiest! All you need are potatoes (and maybe a little seasoning) to make delicious, golden-brown oven fries at home. Unlike regular fries, these are made with zero grease or fat, so you can enjoy a great big pile of them and feel good too! Enjoy these as a snack or side dish, or make them the main event, with a large green salad to accompany.

It's best to use large baking potatoes for this recipe, but any variety should work well. Make sure your oven is hot before you put your fries inside, so that the outside crisps up nicely.

  • 700g / 1.5 pounds potatoes
  • Seasonings (see options below)

  1. Preheat oven to 230°C / 440°F. Line 2 large baking trays with baking paper.
  2. Slice potatoes into wedges of a medium thickness. Spread out evenly across both baking trays, leaving a small gap between each one. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, and/or your seasoning of choice (see below for options.)
  3. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until potatoes are golden brown. (You may need to rotate your trays once or twice during cooking to ensure they are evenly baked.) Serve with a side of homemade ketchup or spiced bean dip.

Seasoning Options:

Italian Herb Oven Fries

  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic granules

Mix herbs and garlic granules together in a small bowl. Sprinkle evenly over potatoes before baking.

Smoky-Spiced Oven Fries

Garlic Curry Oven Fries

  • 1/2 tsp. garlic granules
  • 3 tsp. mild curry powder
  • 1 tsp. garam masala

Mix spices together in a small bowl. Place potatoes in a large mixing bowl after slicing, sprinkle with curry seasoning, and toss to combine. Spread potatoes out over baking trays and bake as instructed above.
